The next step is to examine your vision and break it down into goals or missions depending on how ‘big’ the vision is. A mission or as Phil Olley puts it in his ‘Nexus Experience’ and ‘Blueprint Weekend’ an ‘Awesome Special Mission’ has a number of goals and he likens it to climbing a mountain with a preparation phase, establishment of a ‘base camp’ and then a ‘final assault’ on the summit. It’s a good way of working out what your goals are going to be.
Bob Proctor puts it another way describing the summit or realisation of your vision as your ‘C’ Goal – a goal you have little or no idea how you are going to reach from where you stand right now. This breaks down into ‘B’ Goals you have a rough idea of how to get to and then ‘A’ Goals or things you know exactly how to do.
What are the key elements of your vision? There will be several if your vision is clear. These key ‘things to do’ or ‘things to achieve but I’m not sure how to’ are your ‘C’ goals, there will probably be between three and five. If you have more, you may need to reconsider the magnitude or timeframe of your vision.
Next step is to break down these ‘C’ goals into component ‘B’ and then ‘A’ goals. At this stage you’re not going into the detail of the goals, just what needs to be achieved and in what sequence because some goals may need to have been completed or started before you can commence working on another.
I’ve always found it easier to do this on a whiteboard if you have one or you can use different coloured ‘post-it’ notes on a large sheet of paper or maybe on the wall or a sheet of glass, a window or mirror, or a flat door to help you get everything in the right order. If you try to do it on a computer screen, I guarantee it will take at least twice as long and you’ll get frustrated with the exercise. You can transfer your goal scheme or schedule to the computer when you’re satisfied with it.
